In the depths of this frigid PNW winter, some lipstick shades stand out to me more than others. I don’t really ever limit myself based on the seasons, but there’s something to be said for classic reds and berry tones this time of year. Here are my top five lipsticks for these blistering winter months.
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu ($26.00 / Sephora) – This deep purple crayon has a matte finish with an applicator that is 100% in your control. If you prefer to use the edges, have at it, but it can also be sharpened to a tiny tip for a flawless lipline. The formula can be a touch drying, but it last ages and I have yet to see someone who it doesn’t look good on.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Beetroot ($26.00 / Sephora) – You wouldn’t believe me if I told you how hard it is to find a cool-toned berry shade, so just trust me on this one – it’s not easy! Leave it to Bite to save the day, probably my all-time favorite lipstick brand and one of the few that uses only food-grade ingredients. This cool-toned berry is perfect for the cold weather, its satin finish is comfortable to wear for hours and hours, and the formula does dry down a touch so it’ll last that long too! I was pretty bummed when Bite pulled their Luminous Matte line, but the Amuse Bouche lineup has yet to disappoint.
MAC Liptensity in Mulling Spices ($21.00/ maccosmetics.com)- One of my goals for 2017 is to work on feeling more confident in the perfect red I worked so hard to find in 2016. This cool-toned burgundy red feel moisturizing on the lips and is impressively long lasting considering its cream finish. Part of MAC’s new Liptensity line, if the other shades perform as well as this one… I see my collection growing significantly this year.
Lime Crime Velvetine Liquid Lipstick in Marshmallow ($20.00 / limecrime.com) – Perhaps a “run of the mill” warm-leaning nude, but this liquid lipstick from cruelty-free Lime Crime is one of my favorites. It’s muted, but stills adds dimension instead of a washed out look. The ultra liquid formula is easy to apply and gives some time to work with before drying down completely matte. It’s a lovely and long-wearing formula, but if you’d rather not support the brand, Dose of Colors have a similar shade in Bare With Me.
Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Cray Cray ($20.00 / ulta.com) – Even when it’s 26*F, I still need that pop of color! This bright orange shade is perfect with neutral or muted eye looks (bright ones too, don’t worry) with a formula is so comfortable and long lasting, I even rocked this shade for our Thanksgiving feast.
