Lipstick Arsenal: Favorite Pinks & Nudes

There was not meant to be such a long gap between posts, my sincerest apologies! If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that The Boyfriend and I recently found our dream home and have been in the process of acquiring said houseΒ and selling our current home. Home owner life is no joke! Now that I’ve littered this post with excuses, let’s move on.

A while back someone asked me to swatch my entire lipstick arsenal, and that’s just… a task I’m not sure I’m ready for yet. That said, there are some clear winners in every color category and I thought that sharing those would be a lovely compromise. No one really needs to see myΒ stuff that’s just okay, right? So let’s start off with the basics: the pinks, nudes, pinky nudes, and nude-y pinks! Here are my top five for spring/summer 2017.

Lime CrimeΒ Matte Velvetine liquid lipstick in Marshmallow (limecrime.com, $20.00/0.88oz)Β – This isn’t the first time Lime Crime has made it into a favorites list of mine, I absolutely love the long-lasting ultra-liquid formula of their Velvetine liquid lipsticks. This slightly-pink nude shade is perfect for every day, and it’s one of the few that stays in my rotation all year long.

My Bite Beauty Lip Lab Experience

I was lucky enough to spend almost two weeks back on the east coast with family and friends this summer and part of that trip landed me in New York for a few days. As some of you may know, the Bite Beauty Lip Lab is in SoHo so of course I had to go check it out and make my very own custom lipstick!

Bite is probably my favorite brand for bullet-style lipsticks so the opportunity to take that amazing formula and create a custom color just for me was far too exciting to pass up.Β I scheduled my appointment online well in advance, but I do believe they take some same day appointments. Still, if you know you want to go, just schedule in advance to be sure you can get a spot!

I walked in to this tiny little alley-style shop absolutely filled with lipstick making ingredients and signed in. I was only waiting for a few minutes before it was my turn to have a seat at one of the booths and get started on my personal creation.

Daily Grind: Best Lip Colors for Work

sunlight (20)

I was planning to do my summer picks for lips and nails first, but as some of you may know, I just got a new job! Since I’m still in my first few weeks at the new office, I thought it’d be more relevant to share my work-appropriate lip picks instead.

For those of you that have a more casual dress code or otherwise not-customer-facing position, you can probably get away with rocking the brightest bright colors. Since my new position is patient-facing (I’m in health administration “in real life”), I’m expected to be a bit more toned-down with my looks. I absolutely love playing with makeup, and I really wanted some fun options that were appropriate for work without the soul-sucking repetition of a sheer lipstick like Chanel Boy every day (don’t get me wrong, it’s a great product, it’s just not enough personality for me). So here are my top 12 lip picks for the “conservative business casual” office.

These are of course just shade suggestions and specific products that work for me. If the colors I’ve listed aren’t quite right for you, consider checking out other shades from the same product line to find what suits you best in a formula I can vouch for.

All of the products mentioned in this post are cruelty-free. Except for NARS Audacious lipstick in Anna, all other products mentioned in this post are vegan.

Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick (Sephora, $20.00/0.22oz) – Easily my favorite formula of the “mainstream” liquid lipstick lot, the price is great for the amount of product you get too. I love the sleek packaging, and these opaque mattes are comfortable to wear for long periods of time without any cracking or crumbling. I think I own eight of these now, but these are my top three for the daytime professional:

Jeffree / Mother / Lovesick

Lovesick – One of my current favorites overall, this pale mauve-nude is just cool enough to mesh perfectly with my undertones. I love to pair it with pastel pinks and purples like Makeup Geek’s Cupcake and Unexpected, but it’s close enough to my natural lip shade that I think it could work with almost any daytime eye look. A slightly elevated MLBB (my lips but better), there are a few more of those in this list.

Top Five: February Favorites

It’s been quite a while since I posted a Top Five Favorites list, but I’ve acquired a lot of goodies over the last few months and a few of them have completely stolen my contoured heart. Here are my top five favorites for the month of February!

Sugarpill CosmeticsPoison Plum eyeshadow ($12/0.12oz) – This was my first ever purchase from Sugarpill and now I want to try damn near everything! The single eyeshadow is massive (3x the size of a MAC Pro pan), and one of the best purples I have ever had the extreme pleasure of working with. It’s a gorgeous deep matte shade with a bit of hidden sparkle to it and has become a major player in my go-to look lately.

Favorite Affordable Products (under $15)

So I finally got my the-seasons-are-changing cold and wasn’t planning to post for a few days, but I didn’t want to keep putting it off. You can expect to see my updated skincare routine and fall haul soon, but for now – here are my favorite affordable products, for $15 or less.

budget beauty

ColourPop is a fantastic choice if you are interested in trying some new things or experimenting with color as everything is $8 or less, plus it’s all cruelty-free and made in the USA. I am a huge fan of most of their products, especially the Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks ($6), Creme Gel eyeliners ($5), and highlighters ($8). Since I talk about the brand so much already, I’m not going to go too in-depth here, but I will recommend my favorite shade for each of the products mentioned: 1st Base, Best O, and Hippo (respectively).

sephoralipstickremoverΒ Sephora Collection Ultimate Oil-in-Gel Lipstick Remover ($9.50, on sale for $5) – This was a product recommendation from someone on Reddit and I am absolutely not disappointed. As someone who is a loyal user of oil-based cleansers, I wasn’t expecting anything overly special from this but for $5 (and 20% off of that), I had to try. Damn does this stuff cut through some liquid lipstick! It beats out both Lush‘sΒ Ultrabland and the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser for removing my beloved liquid lipsticks. Seeing as how that is my preferred lipstick formula, I may be buying more of these soon.
